The Megalithic Quest is a journey to an ancient megalithic site, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where once stood an iron age fort. The stones here (one has fallen over) were apparently aligned with the sunrise. Where the sun rose the bodies of those who had died were left out on a wooden platform to be picked over by birds and animals until only the bones were left. The bones were then collected and laid to rest in a tumuli just nearby.
The Quest is not only to find these amazing stones, but to sit and create a soundscape. Soundscapes can take many shapes and forms and I never cease to be amazed at the inner creativity producing one of these can illuminate. There is no set method, product or outcome. Each soundscape is as individual as the person producing it. Partly because sound itself is so transient - no moment in time will hold exactly the same sounds - they are as unique and as fleeting as we are on this planet. The Longstones can help us understand how important it is to capture all the time we have available to us whilst we can.
