Highly Sensitive People
Twenty per cent of humans are highly sensitive. That's around 1.4 billion people in the world who have this inborn trait. It is also found in over 100 other species.
If you have this trait then you are more likely to reflect deeply on experience and feel strong empathy for others. It may impact on your work and social life through anxiety and depression as well as feelings of being overwhelmed.
A few pioneering scientists are now studying Highly Sensitive People to understand what can help
Being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) is a scientifically proven human trait. With this way of being, people process sensory information far deeper than those without the trait.
Many HSPs have been described as overly emotional and sensitive to what others say or do.
They can suffer from great distress when others do not understand their sensitivity, or worse still they do not understand themselves.
Feeling of weakness, despair and social isolation are often experienced.
Being Highly Sensitive is not a mental illness or a disorder.
It is a way of being for an equal amount of males and females.
Given the right tools to manage being HSP it can actually be viewed as a gift.
At Nature Therapy CIC we are working hard to raise awareness of sensitivity and what can be done to manage it more effectively - especially amongst parents and teachers so they can best work alongside a child who is HSP.
Those who are HSP find that being in nature is a vital part of their survival kit.
Our aim is to help each person who is HSP create their own survival kit.
We have run a series of HSP Knowledge Cafes to consult with those who are HSP to explore their thoughts, feelings and insights.
