Pop up Dementia Theatre
As dementia progresses, changes take place in how an individual sees, hears, smells, feels and tastes the world around them. This can lead to sensory deprivation resulting in extreme social isolation for the individual concerned. Sensory deprivation is also known as ‘white torture’ and can rapidly lead to aggression, agitation, hallucinations, depression withdrawal and poor sleep patterns.
See link below to learn more about the project including the outcomes we are achieving. |
How it works
The pop up theatre is a totally unique, fun and hands on way for participants, such as carers and professionals, to understand more about the changes in sensory perception that take place in dementia. Our Dementia Theatre can be erected indoors or out in relevant community spaces such as schools, hospitals, health clinics, housing complexes, conferences, residential homes and community centres.
We can deliver anywhere within the Hampshire and Isle of Wight regions. Outside of these areas, please contact us direct to discuss. |
The benefits
Evaluation of our work shows a significant decrease in compassion fatigue (the stage before burn out) in both professional and family carers.
The evaluation also shows an overwhelmingly positive response by carers to the programme. Our main finding has been a significant reduction in agitation and aggression for the person with dementia when the Think Sense message is consistently applied. |
